Arslan’s Silent Angel Presented at Eastern Armenian Prelacy

On September 28, Archbishop Anoushavan Tanielian, Prelate of the Eastern Prelacy of the United States, welcomed CINF President Antonia Arslan for a presentation of her latest novella Silent Angel.

According to a Press Release published by the Prelacy itself:

“In an informal and joyous atmosphere, Dr. Vartan Matiossian, Executive Director of the Prelacy, made opening remarks and introduced the speakers. Prof. Siobhan Nash-Marshall, Chair of Christian Philosophy at Manhattanville College (New York) and translator of the book, spoke about the subject of the novel, which she defined as the consciousness of culture as the means of survival. Ms. Ani Khachian and Mr. Armen Morian, Esq. read excerpts from the book. The author, Antonia Arslan, spoke about the circumstances that led her to write the novel and thanked the Prelate for sponsoring this event. Archbishop Anoushavan expressed his appreciation for Ms. Arslan’s lyric prose that had showed literally “a journey through the valley of death,” depicting the selfless character of Armenian women to the world, the woman who knows to give preference to sacred values and protection of culture, even to the risk of endangering her own life. On the occasion, the Prelate announced that the novelist had been granted the Queen Zabel award, the highest commendation of the Prelacy for women, for her distinguished scholarly and literary career and her advocacy of the Armenian spirit worldwide.”

An article on the event was also featured in the Mirror Spectator which remarked that:

“Silent Angel, written in the present tense, relays such graphic and heart-rending details and is so lyrically alive that readers will feel that they are also traveling with the five surviving individuals at the time of the Armenian Genocide during their harrowing journey in the rescue of this precious and huge tome, the priceless Moush Homiliary.”
